New Reggae Music Shaka Buku Is Pure Soul For A New Gen
If you like new reggae music, Shaka Buku is a band you definately want to check out. Its super vibey soulful new reggae style mixed with R&B, soul, rock and jazz.
Shaka Buku wasn’t kidding around when he said his new CD Feel Different is all about “Music That Makes You Feel Good.” The new reggae songs start off with a hit with the track titled “Come Together”; this track has a great RnB feel to it with a grooving bass guitar and drum rhythm. The synthesizers in this song create a great ambient sound that really gets the listener into the zone.
The second track on the album “Good Times Here Today” starts off with a nice grooving acoustic guitar which reminds me a lot of Dave Matthews. The up-strum on the guitar gives the song a funky reggae groove and I can’t help but think of the ocean and blue skies when I hear this song. The song is just about enjoying the good times and taking everything in stride.
The track titled “Set Yourself Free” has a mesmerizing introduction with the electric guitar using the wah-wah pedal while an accompanying acoustic guitar and keyboard double up on the melody. My favorite part of this track has to be the interlude with the guitar solo, followed by a bass guitar solo with a plethora of percussion instruments keeping the beat. Most importantly, the song boasts a positive mantra of setting yourself free from the criticisms and hardships of daily life.
“Smile For Me” begins with an acoustic guitar and then the vocals chime in with a bit of scat-style singing that reminds me a lot of Jason Mraz. This short two minute song has a simple message: a simple smile can positively change someone’s entire mood or day.
I love a song with a good bass intro and that is exactly how “You Give Me Good Love” starts out. One thing to not be overlooked is the presence of the horn sections, the horns provide that extra little something that fills and fattens the song out. Lastly, this song is just about getting some good love, and who doesn’t love that.
“Stars Are In The Sky” starts off with funky piano and bass guitar duet until the drums and electric guitar come in for the full-on reggae funk groove. My favorite part of the song is the pre-chorus breakdown which a great section which builds up into the chorus. The song has a great message to not idolize or try to imitate Hollywood stars, Shaka Buku simply states “Stars Are In The Sky.” The interlude of the song has a instrumental groove and guitar solo that are just fun to listen and move to.
The final song on this track is a nice mellow song called “Hi & Lo”. This track works out extremely well as a final outro to the album. The song talks about the highs and lows to life and the importance of keeping your chin up through all struggles. The song is just vocals and acoustic guitar, as the main focus of the song are the lyrics. The song has a powerful message to help you get through your tough days.
This entire CD is amazingly consistent and fluid, I recommend you check out Feel Different because it will give you a positive boost anytime you listen. This CD is a great inspiration and works as a pick-me-up whenever you’re feeling down or low. Check out some great new reggae songs from Shaka Buku at www.shakabuku.com
