Why Nylon Tubing is the Best Substitute of Copper Tube?
Nylon tubing is known in industries as :
- Nylon tube / nylon pipe / nylon hose
- Polyamide tubes / polyamide pipes / polyamide hoses
- PA tube / PA pipe / PA hose
Nylon tubing is most suitable choice for low air pressure in pneumatic applications, the reason behind is its flexibility with high toughness. It can be manufactured using nylon-6 or nylon-12 also called PA-6 or PA-12 resins. The process here involved is called extrusion and it is carried out in an extruder having a required L/D ratio of screw to barrel. Heating and friction makes resin to melt forming viscous material inside the equipment. After passing through the specially designed die, the molten mass takes the tube shape that finally is cooled and sized through sizer.

Nylon tubing is available in various colors which facilitates identifying each tube. Easy identification leads to trouble-free installation and maintenance. This is one of the reasons that make nylon hose superior to copper, steel and rubber pipes. It is considered to be the best tubing for all types of air and pneumatic systems. Nylon hose is available in almost all type of colors such as Red, Blue, Black, Yellow, Green, Orange, white and so on.
Nylon tubing is generally offered in standard sizes ranging from 2mm to 20 mm outside diameter having wall thickness of 0.50 mm to 3mm. Customized tubing is also made and supplied as per requirements. Metric size tubes as well as inch sizes are available in the market. The more the wall thickness of the tube, the more is the pressure withstanding capacity of the tubing. The tubing having pressure withstanding capacity as high as 150 kg/ cm 2 is also available. Reinforcement on tube will further increase the pressure capacity. This tubing is also made as per DIN standard.
Nylon tubing has a wide range of application in industries. It is used in circulation of oil in lubrication system / hydraulic system. Same is the case in pneumatic circuit where it is the first choice. It is most commonly used as fuel lines in automobile industries – in trucks, trailers etc.
