A Drive Through Mexico
Driving in Mexico can be a very good experience as long as one is prepared. When one decides to drive in Mexico, they should abide by some rules to help them gain legal entry into the country. There are certain procedures that one needs to comply with as they travel in Mexico. The said procedures however do not apply to people who are driving inside the Border Zone or free Trade Zones. The Border Zone is the area that is twenty kilometers on the south of the U.S. – Mexico border. The Free Trade Zone on the other hand includes areas such as the Sonora Free Trade Zone and the Baja California Peninsula.
If one wants to drive deep into the heart of Mexico they should first collect their documents and such documents include birth certificates or passports, proper immigration forms, driver’s license, leasing contract, the registration certificate of the vehicle and international credit cards. It is very important for a person to have Mexican Auto Insurance as they drive through the country. This is because the police and the Mexican government does not recognize the insurance polices that are written in other countries. This also applies to those that are said to have Mexican coverage. To obtain a permit one should drive their vehicle to the customs office usually at the border. They will then present the above documents to the “Modulo de Control Vehicular”. The next step is to pay the bond deposit and certificate fee which is non-refundable. Finally, one should return the certificate. When on leaves Mexico and if their vehicle is not going back to Mexico their temporary importation permit must be canceled. This can be done at customs. The original first bond that was posted for the vehicle’s return guarantee will be given back at this time. It is important to remember that if one’s car is in Mexico beyond the agreed time it will be confiscated. The driver will also have to forfeit the bond that will have been posted.
When one drives in Mexico they need to be very patient as not everything will go as it is supposed to and not everything will go their way. They will also have need humility as it will help them ask for the help. Basic knowledge of vehicle repair and mechanics is also vital if one is driving in Mexico. They should also have a tool box with them that contains all the necessary tools for car repair. It is also advisable to always have a spare tire and water pump. The water can be drunk in case the car breaks down and the change will be useful if one wants to buy a snack.
