Cat5 KVM Switch: Cost Effective Solution over Traditional KVM Switch
The new standard in KVM Switch technology is the Cat5 KVM Switch. The bulky cables that were traditionally used to connect servers to a KVM switch have been replaced by Cat5/Cat6 cabling in order to make the necessary connections. A user can now connect multiple computers via UTP cables at distances up to 40m away. The Cat5 cables plug directly into the KVM switch at one end and with the use of a PS2 or USB dongle are connected to the computers at the other end, effectively reducing the amount clutter in your configuration.
Equipped with the ability to be daisy chained, these switches can control 256 servers simultaneously. They are a cost effective solution over the previous versions. Available in 8, 16 and 32 port models, these devices are RoHS, FCC and CE certified. The traditional KVM Switch is being replaced by this Cat5 version due to features such as allowing older or redundant PS2 servers to be mixed with newer USB systems. This allows you to save money while extending the life of your current equipment. These switches are designed to deliver high quality images with a video resolution up to 1600 x 1200. Control is still administered by keyboard commands through a single set of peripheral devices via OSD (on screen display) or front panel push buttons on the unit.
Having the ability to support multiple platforms including PC, SUN and Mac and operating systems such as Windows Vista, 2003, XP, LINUX, Netware as well as UNIX makes these devices compatible in almost any business environment. Other features or options include dual power with fail over and 12, 24 and 48 volt DC power. The CAT5 KVM device also features a multilingual interface giving users the option to select from a variety of languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese. These switches have security features through which passwords can be enabled or disabled and multiple user profiles can be created for accessing ports.
Due to the improved features incorporated in these devices, they are ideal in environments where control of multiple computers is required through a single keyboard, video display and mouse.
