The Morning Outlook
Asian and European Markets finished strong while we slept and China promised to hold on to European bonds, which all point to a higher open this morning in U.S. markets. Investors are hopeful for a strong round of economic numbers to continue fueling a recovery of the losses incurred over the past two weeks.
Oil has risen by 1.79 and is currently trading at 73.30 , Gold is down 5.40 but is still trading strongly at 1,208.00
British Petroleum began pumping mud and cement into their oil leak in the gulf yesterday, but stated that they would not be able to tell if the leak has been plugged until mid afternoon today. Reports are saying that a broad murmuring against the current administration is beginning to gain some steam as residents of the gulf area of the U.S. are disappointed in President Obama’s handling of the situation.
As stated in our 7 Things To Read Before Trading Today piece from Lou Brien, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner is in Berlin in meetings with Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble agreeing that a strong round of global financial reforms were necessary to hedge against current problems from happening in the future. In other Big Cap news, Costco reported an increase in profit for quarter 3, beating the streets estimate of 66 cents per share, with 68 cents per share of $306 million. The U.S. largest wholesaler is beginning to gain steam which is an encouraging statistic, showing increased spending of individuals with large families or businesses buying in bulk. Tiffany and Co also reported their first quarter profit today, noting that they earned 50 cents per diluted share or 64.4 million dollars, hinting that expendable income has begun to increase slowly.
