Do You Need to Lift Weights To Tone Up?
No. Well that’s not entirely true. OK. I tell a lie. Yes, you do need to weights. Confused? After the next few paragraphs all will become clear.
To get a body which you’re happy with, you have to lift weights. Your ideal body could be a figure you can show off in a bikini. On the other hand, you may want a body free from arthritic pain. Whatever your body improvement goals, weights can be one solution.
Lifting weights Lifting weights is an important part of any exercise program. Given a choice between lifting weights and running, always opt for the weighs.
OK, so you know that weights help you improve your fitness. Some weights are better than others. You read the words “lifting weights” and an image of a burly bloke bench pressing his own body weights springs to mind. Those metal bars with the heavy metallic discs on each end beloved by bodybuilders the world over and just one sort of weight you can live.
Another type of weight you can lift is you. Your body can be the weight you lift. In many ways, the benefits of lifting your own body far outweigh lifting the typical weights found in gyms.
Body weight is a natural way of building muscle and shaping. Lions and tigers and bears have good muscularity and you don’t see them lifting weights.
One argument against body weight is the weight cannot be altered and you cannot made progress and gain muscle. You can increase the difficulty of the exercise without increasing the weight you lift. A squat is an exercise that can be performed using just body weight. To make squats more taxing, do them on one leg. Another technique is to squat down slower than than normal, hold and stand up very slowly. It’s a killer.
Wherever you are, you can do a workout using only your body weight. Body weight-only exercise are a boon for those on tight budgets (no expensive equipment to buy or hideously priced gym fees to pay) and are great for frequent travellers )you can do a workout in your hotel room.
Homework time: look at videos and pictures of Bruce Lee and Olympic gymnasts. Great bodies and no weights used.
