Why make the use of hazard warning symbols at workplace?
There is a wide range of hazard warning symbols and signs available to make sure you are using the genuine signage around your workplace. This is generally born out of necessity due to the increased number of hazards in the workplace. This has increased drastically in recent years in accordance with government legislation and safety precautions and measures that are in place. What was once a piece of equipment that was taken for granted is now a hazard or risk that needs a complete set of regulations itself.

Hazard warning symbols are symbols that are very feasibly recognizable and have been crafted with this purpose in mind. The use of hazard symbols is often administered by law and directed by standards organizations. Hazard warning symbols may come with different colors, backgrounds, borders and additional information in a bid to intimate the type of hazard. Many of the hazard symbols used in workplaces today have been tested on different age groups who speak a variety of languages, to ensure that the message carried by hazard signs is clear.
Some widely recognizable hazard warning symbols include the sparkling yellow radioactive sign, the skull and cross bones toxic symbol and the set of European orange hazard symbols. These have all become common place and are used to denote hazardous materials or locations. The radiation symbol was inherently magenta on a blue background. This was later replaced by a reddish-purple colour on a yellow background. In the United Kingdom, the hazard warning symbols are often accompanied with a red triangle encompassing a black exclamation mark – a symbol related with driving, but quickly recognizable as a hazard warning.
Temporary hazard warning symbols are also commonplace. For instance, these can be used to display warning messages when a floor has been mopped, or a spillage has occurred. In such case, the hazard sign would display “Wet Floor” as a slippage warning. The method used to attach the hazard sign is also crucial. If a permanent or long standing hazard exists, then this should be displayed with a sign that is also attached permanently.
