Can I just buy a microphone to hook up to my receiver and use for singing?
My daughter wanted a microphone for christmas and santa brought her a crappy hannah montana one that works off the radio frequency (ie-it doesn’t work worth a crap) and I spotted a couple microphones off of amazon that are inexpensive and look like they can be connected to my receiver/surround system. Is there anything special i would need to do other than buying the microphone and connecting it to my surround sound? What would i need to have the surround sound on as well, dvd, tv, ect? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. The microphone is listed below:

That all depends on the Receiver you have, there could be one out there that will allow a microphone to be hooked up to it. However I am not aware of any except for maybe a Karaoke machine. A microphone needs a Microphone pre amp which is kinda like a volume control on speakers except it gives the microphone gain, (loudness). If you want something for your daughter to sing with I would get a karaoke machine, there are some that are really cheap and would do the trick. Do a search on Amazon for one.
