Benefits of Living in a Gated Community
When shopping for a new home, one of the top priorities for a homebuyer is location. Whatever our tastes, urban, suburban, or rural, everyone wants to live someplace that suits our preferences, where we feel safe living and raising our families. To achieve these goals, homebuyers can do ample area research on things such as school ratings, resell values and crime statistics. They can also choose to purchase a home in an area with strong community spirit, such as one with an active neighborhood organization or simply one that knows and looks out for each other. One such neighborhood that tends to exemplify all these desirable traits is a gated community.
People often view the main benefit of a gated community to be the security it provides. While there are many other benefits, this is certainly a positive aspect of the community. Though there is no way to prevent all crime in any community, a gated community adds an extra level of security by helping to restrict uninvited visitors from entering. Whatever movies and television may imply, most home invasions are not well-planned and coordinated heists. In fact, the majority of home invasions, property theft or vandalism are crimes of opportunity. Generally, it is someone who simply walked into a neighborhood looking for the easiest target, like an unlocked door or window. By restricting such entrance, gated communities ultimately make living safer for the homeowner. And while not a criminal activity, though you may wish it were, a gated community means less door-to-door salesmen ringing your doorbell.
Another benefit to a gated community is less traffic. As neighborhoods and the areas around them grow, many find that their formerly peaceful community is transformed into high-traffic short-cuts between major roadways. What can begin as a neighborhood you feel safe letting your children skate and bike through, can suddenly feel unsafe for even adults to traverse. Additionally, by limiting non-residents on your neighborhood roadways, you can find that you worry less about speeders as residents have a vested interest in driving safely through their neighborhood. Also, less traffic means less noise, pollution and need for road repairs.
Gated communities are also able to invest more into neighborhood amenities like pools, clubhouses and walking trails. While a non-gated community is often limited to providing amenities that can be cheaply maintained and secured, since it is harder to limit access to residents, gated communities find that they can invest more into amenities without these concerns. You will often find state-of-the-art community centers with gorgeous poolscapes in gated communities. For residents who live on Hill Country property, they may even enjoy the benefits of a community fishing lake and maintained walking and biking trails through natural landscapes.
Finally, gated communities are often more close-knit in spirit. Even when these neighborhoods enjoy large acreage home sites, residents often find that it is easier to know who your neighbors are, and to enjoy a greater sense of community. And one will find, ultimately, that this end-result of knowing and caring about your neighbors often provides as many benefits as those provided by your community gates.
