Should I Even Use a Route Planner
Sometimes we just need to get on the open road and just go for it. We can all say that there is a little fun in not having a plan or any real route. Sometimes not even using a map! The things that we find on the open road when that is our preferred means of navigation can be fun, exciting and interesting.
Then on the other had some need a planned out, detailed list of stops, distances, average gas mileage, yada, yada, yada….not I!
Now I like the idea of having a GPS and using that device as it is intended. Maybe it’s just a personality thing but the ideas of having each and every step laid out and placed does not sound fun to me. When I got out of the Air Force and moved back to the US I picked up my 87 Volkswagen Van and just took off from Ney Jersey. I didn’t even open up a map until about Ohio!
Below I listed out some Pro’s and Con’s of using a Route Planner.
Pro’s: Of course getting to where you’re going on time. Hopefully no hang ups on your route. You might be able to plan your trips a little better (still some debate out on that). One could argue about the saving money concept. From our experience you had better make sure your route is correct!
Con’s: You just might miss something off the beaten path. You could get very frustrated when things don’t go as planned. Once things do not go as planned, that can cost you money. Never a fun pill to swallow.
We highly recommend that once in your travel life, just once, pick a spot on the map and go. Don’t go crazy with the detailed route planner, the Hyper sensitive GPS and just hit the road. I love to hear the stories that come from these types of trips. The people that you met, the stores you would have otherwise missed.
So travel on and make it an adventure..
